On special occasions, I like to make a really yummy breakfast for my guys. However, I am not a morning person so cooking in the morning is not likely to happen. But now there is a solution! An easy make ahead breakfast bake that just has to be popped into the oven! Even I can preheat and open an oven before I’ve had my coffee!
Now, let me note that this is in no way a healthy recipe – I make it maybe twice a year because I’m sure it takes the rest of the year for their arteries to clear back out but oh, my is it good! So if you’re looking for a special breakfast for Easter morning or just something simple but yummy that is sure to bring a smile to their faces, try out this easy make ahead breakfast bake!
What You Will Need
2 Cups of Milk
1 Pound Sausage
2 Cups of Shredded Cheese
3 Slices of Bread
1/2 Teaspoon Mustard Powder
1/2 Teaspoon Salt
How to Make It
Start by browning and draining your sausage. To do this, cut up your sausage into small squares and cook on medium-high in a frying pan until all signs of pink have disappeared. Then drain well.
Once you have browned and drained your sausage, set it aside while you prepare the rest of the dish. Grease a rectangular glass cooking dish and cover the bottom with bread cubes. You can cut your pieces of bread for perfect cubes or let the kiddos tear them up to get them involved. J-Man tore up our bread cubes and while they may not look perfect in the dish, once your final bake is done, you will never be able to tell the difference and your kids will be so proud to have helped!
Now spread your drained sausage evenly over the bread cubes and top with shredded cheese.
Now you’re ready to mix up the rest of your ingredients! In a bowl, mix your eggs, milk, mustard powder and salt and beat well till it is a smooth consistency. Pour your egg mixture evenly over your bread, sausage and cheese.
Now cover your dish with aluminum foil and put in the refrigerator over night!
When you wake up in the morning, stumble to the oven and preheat it to 350 degrees. Pop your breakfast bake in for 30 to 40 minutes or until it is set to the correct consistency (firm but not over-cooked).
Let it cool for about 15 minutes and then serve warm to your hungry family!
