With it being the week of Halloween, I’ve been thinking of all types of ways to reflect the season in my home. I’ve carefully chosen the kid’s costumes, stocked up on candy and made sure the house is just the right about of scary. But looking around, I realized that I had left our family pooch out of the fun. So when I had the opportunity to participate in a sponsored post with Lunchbox where I was challenged to PETrify My Pumpkin, I grabbed the kids, told the hubby to dust off his tools and got to work making the most fabulous pumpkin we’ve ever had in our home that is filled with quite a bit of pet love.
Now you see, when it comes to special occasions like Halloween, I have a tendency to focus on the kiddos. I actually think it’s quite normal since they are quite literally nipping at my heels asking me how I’m going to make things fun. But in the craziness of it all, I have a tendency to forget that I’m a pet mama too! And this year, while the kids carved crazy faces into their pumpkins, I figured there would be no better way to make our pup feel special than by giving him is own pumpkin that…wait for it….has his image on it!
When I first started thinking about taking on this task, I’ll admit that it was a little overwhelming. But then I discovered that I was not the only one with this idea and that Purina is challenging pet owners to “PETrify Your Pumpkin” with carving templates on Walmart.com. With 27 different breeds to choose from, I knew I was sure to find one that reminded me of Max.
So I quickly headed to the Walmart.com PETrify Your Pumpkin site and started scrolling through the templates. Just as I expected, I quickly found a spaniel template and while it may not have been a Cocker Spaniel, it was the perfect match for the pumpkin carving I had in mind. After printing out my template and cutting it out, I secured it onto my pumpkin to create an outline for my hubby to carve.
Next I set him loose with his tools. And while I’m usually the crafty one in our home, he got right to work. After looking at the pumpkin carefully, we decided not to carve all the way though it but to instead use the surface of the pumpkin as a canvas for our creation. With a few simple carving tools, he cut around the stencil and I watched in amazement as our PETrified Pumpkin came to life.
I was seriously shocked at how little time it took to PETrify our pumpkin because the Purina templates just made it so easy. And at the end of about forty-five minutes of carving, the result was more amazing than I could have ever imagined!
We all just stood and looked at our fabulous PETrified pumpkin and honestly, we couldn’t believe we had made something so awesome!
After getting Max’s seal of approval, we placed our PETrified pumpkin in the place of honor on our front porch.
Now, when guests come, they will know we’re excited about Halloween for our kiddos AND our pet! They will know that while the kids might get to dress up for the festivities, our Max is the only member of our family who has a pumpkin carved in his honor. And while we pass out pieces of candy, we’ll also be ready with Purina products to ensure that the pets in our neighborhood feel loved as well.
So listen up pet mamas and dads! It’s not too late to get your pup in on the Halloween action as you PETrify your own pumpkin! Be sure to grab one of twenty-seven templates here today so that you can have your beloved pet’s face on the front of your pumpkin by tomorrow!
