‘Tis the season for drool-worthy dishes! Fa-la-la-la-YUM! With Christmas less than a week and a half away, I’ve got on my apron on (and my Santa hat too if you really must know) and am in the kitchen whipping up some amazing holiday dishes for family and friends to enjoy…the easy way. For me, this holiday season has been about doing more with less effort. Gifts have been ordered online. Decorations have been scaled down to a beautiful but elegant minimalist vibe. In all honesty, I’ve done everything in my power to simplify the holiday season in order to enjoy more and stress less. However, just because I’m trying to simplify the season doesn’t mean that I don’t want to serve us delicious dishes that my family adores…especially when it comes to desserts. You see, what I make for dinner matters. But what follows dinner? Well, that’s how I really spread the holiday cheer. So this year I’ve gotten SMART and come up with a new twist on a classic holiday dessert with a little help from Walmart. And the end result? Well, how about finishing off a holiday meal with the divine taste of a Caramel Apple Pie Sundae!
Now, I know…this delicious dish looks like it requires racking up some hours in the kitchen but that’s just not the case! In fact, this unique take on apple pie and ice cream (which happens to be a holiday tradition in my home) is so easy….and so yummy! It all starts with a trip to Walmart for the perfect holiday ingredients like Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie, Reddi-wip and Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa Marshmallow! With these holiday classics on hand as the perfect shortcut (cause who has time for bake from scratch?) it’s simple to whip up a new take on classic holiday fare that is truly amazing!
What You Will Need
1 Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie
1 Cup of Vanilla Bean Ice Cream
1/2 Cup of Caramel Sauce
1 Pre-made Pasty Sheet
Reddi-Wip Whipped Cream
How to Make It
The key to this fantastic Caramel Apple Pie Sundae is of course, the apple pie! While any home cook knows that apple pie is one of the most time consuming desserts to make (just cutting all those apples takes forever), my secret to whipping up this amazing dish without all the work is Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie! With that homemade taste that everyone loves and high quality ingredients, nobody in my family has to know I haven’t been slaving away the day in the kitchen (shhhh)! All it requires on my part is following the directions on the box to have a perfectly baked pie in an hour (shocking, right)?
With delicious apples and a perfectly sweet filling, this easy to make pie allows me to achieve baking perfection, complete with that dutch crumble on the top that really makes this dessert amazing!
While I know that I could serve my Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie up with a scoop of ice cream and some Reddi-wip and thrill my family’s taste buds, I decided this year that I would create a fun Caramel Apple Pie Sundae that’s perfect for enjoying in front of the tree and the fire. With my pie baked to perfection, I quickly pulled out some pre-made pasty sheets and used a cookie cutter to create stars.
After adding my stars to a pan, I brushed on an egg wash and baked my pasty stars on 400 degrees for seven minutes, just until they were golden brown.
As soon as they came out of the oven, I set to work putting together my delicious creation. To start, I drizzled caramel syrup into my cups and then added two generous scoops of vanilla bean ice cream to each one.
Next, I scooped out a generous portion of my pie and spooned it over the top, allowing the delicious filling and apples to slightly melt my ice cream as then settled into the cup.
Once my Marie Callender’s Dutch Apple Pie had been added, I topped my creation off with Reddi-wip Whipped Cream.
For a finishing touch, I added my pasty star and drizzled more caramel syrup over the top and instantly I had a dessert that felt festive, looked amazing and was above all a delicious way to bring the classic flavors of the holiday season to my dinner table with very little effort!
I have to say, this Caramel Apple Pie Sundae was a total hit with my family. Even with the cold weather, the creaminess of the melting ice cream paired with the delicious flavor of the pie was completely satisfying!
But we’re not stopping our festive celebration with our Caramel Apple Pie Sundae because what’s the holiday without warm, creamy hot chocolate? How about easy peppermint hot chocolate that’s a seasonal favorite!
What You Will Need
1 Package Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa Marshmallow
1 Cup of Whole Milk
1/4 Teaspoon of Peppermint Extract
Reddi-wip Whipped Cream
Mini Candy Canes
How to Make It
This festive twist on classic hot chocolate is so easy to make and it just screams holiday fun! To start I simply added my Swiss Miss Hot Cocoa Marshmallow to a holiday themed mug.
After heating my milk (I prefer milk in my hot chocolate for a creamier taste), I poured it into my mug.
Next my peppermint extract went it and I stirred it all together to create a warm and creamy treat that has just the right amount of peppermint flavor!
But, of course, peppermint hot chocolate is just not complete without Reddi-wip so I added the creamy goodness of it right to the top.
After sprinkling on some crushed candy cane and adding a mini candy cane to the side, my festive drink was ready to serve.
It was a perfect way to warm up that took only minutes to prepare which is a total win if I do say so myself!
And with that first sip of creamy chocolaty goodness, it’s easy to feel that the holiday season is complete!
As you can see, things are getting crazy festive (and crazy delicious) in my house and the best part is, I’m saving tons of time by starting my holiday treats with trusted items from Walmart.
