For as long as I can remember, I’ve loved fries. Maybe it’s the taste that takes me back to my childhood. Maybe it’s the comforting flavors. No matter what the reason, in my home, fries are a flavorful part of my recipe rotation. While I’ll never say no to classic french fries and ketchup (and neither will my kiddos), I’ve recently started experimenting with bold flavor combinations that give my favorite childhood dish a more grown up appeal. By pairing classic flavors with unique toppings and dips, I’m re-discovering that fries are an amazing food for any age…especially when those fries happen to be included in my Caramelized Bacon and Gorgonzola Fry Skillet!
So, what is it about fries that make them a staple in my home? Well, I guess it comes down to flavor and convenience. I can quickly and easily put McCain Seasoned Fries on my family table and I know that everyone will be thrilled. Made with real potatoes and unique, flavorful seasonings, McCain Seasoned Fries are pretty much a staple in my freezer since I know that they make a perfect side that goes with any dinner!
But sometimes, instead of simply serving McCain Seasoned Fries with a side of ketchup, I like to mix things up a little bit and introduce big flavors to my trusted fries. That’s when I turn to my go-to Caramelized Bacon and Gorgonzola Fry Skillet. With an unexpected favor combination that is sweet, savory and a little tangy, this dish is perfect for movie night at home, impromptu date night dinners and even entertaining with friends.
What You Will Need:
1 Bag of McCain Seasoned Crinkle Fries
1 and 1/4 Cup of Brown Sugar
1/2 Teaspoon of Cinnamon
10 Slices of Bacon
1 Cup of Gorgonzola Cheese
How to Make It:
While my Caramelized Bacon and Gorgonzola Fry Skillet looks AND tastes amazing, it’s actually pretty simple to whip up! My first step of this amazing dish is to caramelize my bacon so that it has plenty of time to cool and become crispy. To do this, I simply added my brown sugar and cinnamon to a baking dish and mixed it together. Then I placed my slices of bacon into the dish on top of the brown sugar.
After using my hands to gently coat each piece of bacon with the brown sugar mixture, I placed then in a single layer on a baking sheet (it took two baking sheets to cook all the pieces) and placed them into an oven preheated to 375 degrees for 12 minutes, turning the bacon at the half-way mark.
After my caramelized bacon was completely cooked, I removed it from the oven, set it aside and allowed it to cool (this also gave it a chance to get crispy which is what I needed for my recipe). With my caramelized bacon cooling, I moved on to my fries. Now, this is where things really got flavorful because with the already perfectly seasoned McCain fries, I had to do very little to create the base for my Caramelized Bacon and Gorgonzola Fry Skillet. It was actually as simple as preheating my oven and cooking my McCain Seasoned Crinkle Fries according to the directions on the package.
In no time at all, my McCain Seasoned Fries were cooked to perfection and I was ready to assemble my flavorful dish. I quickly transferred my cooked fries to a skillet (because everything is better when served in a skillet, right?).
Next, I cut my bacon into small pieces and sprinkled it over the top of my McCain Seasoned Fries.
Once my bacon was added and had been tossed in with my fries gently, I sprinkled my Gorgonzola cheese over the top. The slightly tangy flavor of this cheese was a perfect complement to the seasoned fries and sweet bacon to pull the entire dish together perfectly.
Back into the oven my skillet went for about three minutes of 375 degrees, just long enough to slightly soften the Gorgonzola cheese and make the dish perfection. As a finishing touch, I sprinkled diced chives over the top and my creation was complete.
With perfectly crispy and seasoned McCain Seasoned Crinkle Fries, sweet caramelized bacon, tangy Gorgonzola cheese and the freshness of chives in every bite, this Caramelized Bacon and Gorgonzola Fry Skillet is an explosion of flavor in each and every bite. While I had initially created it for what I thought were grown-up tastes, I quickly discovered that the entire family couldn’t get enough of this amazing dish.
Creating my Caramelized Bacon and Gorgonzola Fry Skillet showed me that when it comes to fries, it’s OK to think outside the box and pair flavorful toppings with the unsurpassed taste and unique seasonings of McCain Seasoned Fries.
Going forward, I’ll continue to think outside of the box and come up with joyful ways to make our family favorite fries into amazingly unexpected dishes.
