For a while now I’ve been talking about this big move that we recently made. I’ve been giving you teasers about our new home and showing you bits and pieces. But truth be told, behind the scenes I’ve been hard at work making improvements and turning my home into the place that I want it to be. You see, while it’s already amazing is so many ways, it was in desperate need of a little TLC. The prior owners hadn’t lived there for quite some time and many of the rooms needed cleaning and freshening. And while every room in the house is on my mini-makeover list, I decided to start with the one that is used most often by my two crazy boys….the kids’ bathroom.
My goal in making over the bathroom was to create a place that was welcoming. That felt like boys while still being clean and organized. And while I had plenty of Quilted Northern Toilet Paper ready for their use, that was about the only thing in their bathroom that was right. So I started thinking. I got creative. And then I set to work making over their bathroom from top to bottom with some new towels, a boy-friendly shower curtain and a decorative toilet paper holder that I made all by myself.
So what inspired me to tackle this room first? Well, the old me would have left it till last. After all, it IS the bathroom. But for some reason, the boys’ bathroom was the room in the house that was in the worst shape. The toilet seat was literally falling off. The shower was (shudder) in desperate need of a cleaning and I knew without a doubt that until I made some changes, I would hear two little sets of feet padding down the stairs to use my bathroom.
So, I set to work. I picked up supplies. And while I was at Walmart browsing for ways to breath new life into this bathroom, the hubs and I stocked up on Quilted Northern Ultra Soft & Strong Toilet Paper.
This trusted toilet paper, which has offered trusted quality and comfort since 19o2 was exactly what my boys needed for a confident clean. And since it had a new, fashionable pattern and package it was just the inspiration I needed to give their bathroom a whole new look.
To start my bathroom makeover, I did some major deep cleaning. After all, I couldn’t encourage clean bottoms when the rest of the room was a nightmare! Then I added a new shower curtain, fresh towels and a brand new toilet seat (which can I just say I installed myself!). But the finishing touch for my new and improved bathroom was a decorative toilet paper holder that completed the look perfectly.
You see, if there is one thing I want to make sure is always close at hand in the bathroom, it’s dependable toilet paper. And since I had plenty of Quilted Northern, I just needed the perfect way to put it within hand’s reach. Knowing that their toilet paper was strong, flexible and soft, I wanted a holder that felt the same. And I wanted it to fit seamlessly into the decor so that like Quilted Northern, it was designed so you can forget your bathroom experience.
After toying with a few ideas, I decided what I wanted to make and set to work turning my decorative toilet paper holder into a reality.
What You Will Need:
1/2 Yard of Fabric (Choose a Color that Matches Your Decor)
Ribbon (Your Choice of Color)
Hot Glue and Hot Glue Gun
Piece of Cardboard (22 x 9 inches)
How to Make It:
I started my project by determining the size I wanted it to be. I knew I wanted it to hold three rolls of Quilted Northern toilet paper so I cut my piece of cloth into a rectangle that was 26 inches long and 12 inches wide, making sure that it was large enough to place my toilet paper rolls on.
Next, I pulled out my hot glue gun (because, honestly, I just didn’t want to take the time to sew it). Using hot glue, I turned under all four edges of my piece of fabric and created a seam, securing it with the hot glue.
Next, I turned my piece of cloth that had seams on all four sides over. I knew I needed some type of backing to keep it from collapsing when I hung it on the wall so I cut a large piece of cardboard and secured it to the back of my piece of cloth using hot glue.
Once my cloth was securely attached to the cardboard, it was time to move on to the ribbon! I wanted a cute and easy way to ensure that the boys’ Quilted Northern toilet paper was always available. Knowing that it needed to be simple for my guys to embrace it, I measured off three sections of ribbon, each one being one and one half feet long. Next, I used a measuring tape to determine the center of my piece of cloth and using hot glue, attached my ribbons.
I let my ribbons dry completely and then reinforced them with a little extra glue on top to ensure they stayed put even when holding the Quilted Northern Toilet Paper.
I also used a small additional piece of ribbon on the top to form a hanger. With my decorative toilet paper holder complete, all that was left to do was tie my rolls of Quilted Northern 2 ply sewer and septic safe toilet paper on.
After tying all three rolls onto my toilet paper hanger, I stepped back to look at my work and had to admit that it looked pretty cool!
With the easy to tie ribbons secured around the Quilted Northern rolls, it was easy to see that this was the perfect finishing touch to my bathroom makeover.
Filled with excitement, I quickly took my new toilet paper holder upstairs to add to my already amazing kid’s bathroom. After adding a small removable hook to the wall, all that was left was to secure the ribbon over the hook, keeping the holder in place.
With colors that blended with the rest of my new bathroom decor and a fun way to keep toilet paper easily accessible, it was the finishing touch my bathroom needed. I couldn’t help but step back, call all the guys in my house to look and brag just a little over the major transformation that I had been able to accomplish.
Now, I can say without a doubt that the kids’ bathroom is one of the best spaces in the house. It’s finished and welcoming and above all functional! I know that when my boys enter their bathroom, it will be a place they love. It will welcome them and just like their Quilted Northern, they will know that the entire room was meticulously crafted for maximum comfort and durability!
Whether your bathroom is new, old or simply in need of a fresh look, give it the love it deserves and turn it into a room everyone will want to be in. Start with a good cleaning. Continue with fresh towels. And finish up with a decorative toilet paper holder that puts the confident clean of Quilted Northern at your finger tips. And you just might be surprised when the bathroom turns into the favorite room in your home.
Now that I’ve shared how I’m using Quilted Northern to make my bathroom amazing, tell me your ideas for making over your own bathroom!
