It’s finally summer time and if you’re anything like me changes are pretty good you’ve been not only prepping for long days in the sun but you’ve also been putting in a little extra effort to ensure that your summer clothes fit just right. After all, I often think it’s so much effort to get dressed, load the kids in the car, drive all the way to the gym and then actually do a workout. But getting 30 minutes of exercise a day is actually not all that complicated. It doesn’t have to involve a gym membership or perfect workout outfits. It doesn’t even have to involve tennis shoes. Simple activities like playing tag with my kids or going for a walk in the evenings can help me get the exercise I need. In fact, I’ve started wearing a step tracker (just because I’m a person who is visually motivated) and I’m amazed at the number of calories I burn and the steps I get in just by living my regular summer life and playing with my kids.
In addition to that though, I do try to take a 30 minute walk in the morning or in the afternoon. Often we make it a family time where we all walk together and talk about the day. It’s a nice time to spend with the kids, hold my hubby’s hand and simply be together. And at the ends of it, I have burned some calories and helped boost my metabolism which is the perfect way to help maintain my summer weight.
Make Smart Food Choices
This one is kinda a given but man, have I failed horribly at it in the past. I’ll admit that I don’t always make the best food choices. But this summer, I’m finding ways to make nutritious meals delicious. I’m whipping up chicken salads and topping them with homemade Greek Yogurt Dressing.
I’m turning to the grill instead of frying foods in oil.
And I’m practicing portion control that allows me to fuel my body by making smarter choices that include lean proteins, fruits, veggies and whole grains.
