It’s hard to believe that summer is winding down and soon cooler weather will begin moving in. With Labor Day weekend quickly approaching, my family has been cooking and eating outdoors as much as possible. While I know we’ll continue this tradition as long as possible, for us Labor Day is like the last hoorah of summer and the perfect time to whip up a truly amazing grilled meal. We have a variety of options that are perfect on the grill, but for us nothing is better than tender, meaty delicious grilled ribs. And this year I decided to take things to a whole new level of flavor with easy-to-make Korean BBQ ribs that are truly finger-licking good!
Now, I’ll admit that my Korean BBQ Ribs do require a little prep work and thought but they are so totally worth it that I don’t mind in the least! To start, I of course need the perfect ribs and for us, that means heading to Food Lion to pick up Smithfield® Extra Tender Fresh Pork Spareribs using my $1.00 off coupon!
These tender ribs are perfect for our Labor Day grilling because they contain no artificial ingredients and are enhanced to be as juicy and tender as possible! Seriously, we’ve never made them when they weren’t amazing so I knew that they would be perfection when paired with homemade Korean BBQ sauce! Knowing that Korean BBQ Ribs were seriously the perfect food to throw on the grill, I got to work creating this dish that can’t be missed!
What You Will Need
Smithfield Extra Tender Fresh Pork Spareribs
1 Cup of Low Sodium Soy Sauce
3/4 Cup of Brown Sugar
1 and 1/2 Tablespoons of Fresh Minced Garlic
1 Tablespoon of Mirin
1/2 Teaspoon of Ginger Powder
1 Teaspoon of Sesame Oil
1 Teaspoon of Fresh Ground Pepper
1 Tablespoon of Cornstarch
1 Tablespoon of Water
Scallions and Sesame Seeds for Garnish
How to Make It
To start, I set my Smithfield Extra Tender Fresh Pork Spareribs aside and got to work on my Korean BBQ sauce. Making it was as simple as adding all of my ingredients EXCEPT for my cornstarch and water to a small pot and bringing it to a boil.
Once my sauce ingredients were boiling, I added my cornstarch and water to a small bowl and mixed them together. As soon as my cornstarch was completely dissolved, I poured it into my boiling soy sauce mixture, reduced the heat to low and simmered my Korean BBQ sauce for about five minutes, just until it thickened up so that it would be easy to spread on my ribs.
Once my Korean BBQ Sauce was ready, I called the hubs and got him to fire up the grill. While I may be a master in the kitchen, he’s the grill master and the only one in our home who is allowed to cook Pitmaster Preferred Smithfield Extra Tender Ribs. Once I had covered my ribs in about half of the Korean BBQ Sauce I handed them over to the hubs and he went to work grilling them for about thirty minutes at 300 degrees (be sure to cook your ribs completely).
When our Korean BBQ ribs were almost done, he used more of my homemade BBQ sauce to baste them and ensure they had that delicious Korean flavor in each and every bite!
Once he had continued to grill them for about three minutes while basting them with the BBQ sauce, we removed the ribs from the grill and cut them apart.
After adding our Korean BBQ ribs to a serving platter, I drizzled my remaining Korean BBQ Sauce over the top and sprinkled on my scallions and sesame seeds for a dish that is beyond amazing! *Tip: Use a bed of rice to serve these Korean BBQ Ribs!
With the tender, fall-off-the-bone ribs paired with the perfectly sweet and a little spicy Korean BBQ sauce, I had a Labor Day meal that is sure to bring friends and family running! I know as we celebrate the end of summer with this delicious dish, we’ll all be treated to a dinner that won’t soon be forgotten!
