It’s the most wonderful time of the year….and it’s also the hardest time of the year to stay on track with healthy goals and keep from overindulging! While I’m pretty good with self control most of the year, I’ll fully admit that holiday parties and gatherings put my willpower to the test, especially those office parties that the hubs and I go to every year. Of course they always have the most amazing food catered in and it’s rare that I don’t give nto temptation and end up wishing I’m been a little stronger afterwards. This year, I’m doing things differently thoughg and with a little help from Quill.com and their “5 Tips to Avoid Indulging in Holiday Treats at the Office” post, I’m thinking I can master my holiday munching and still make the most of all those holiday gatherings! Here’s what’s working for me as well as some tips and tricks to avoid Holiday Overindulging for YOU!
Plan and Allow Small Indulgences
I’ve never been a fan of deprivation and have found from my own experience that when I deny myself the ability to indulge at all, I usually end up failing big time! So, now instead of thinking that I’m not going to eat anything at gatherings and parties, I instead plan in advance for my indulgence and calculate how much I can eat. In the same line of thought, I will only go through a line once with a small plate to keep myself from grazing all night. Just by planning it out and allowing myself to eat a treat here or there, I’m much more likely to stay on track!
Take Your Own Smarter Snacks With You
While I don’t want to overindulge at holiday celebrations (and especially office parties and gatherings) I also don’t want to be the only one not eating. One of my simple tricks is to take a bag of veggies and a Greek Yogurt dip that I can munch on while everyone else is eating or even whip up a tray of better-for-you snacks that I can share with everyone there. By simply doing this, I’m ensuring that I’ve got food to munch on that won’t have me feeling like I blew my goals later!
